The Ca’ Rezzonico, an imposing Baroque palace that now houses the Museo del Settecento Veneziano. Here, you literally step into 18th-century Venice.
Started by the Bon family and completed by the powerful Rezzonico family, the interior is richly decorated with frescoes by Tiepolo, Venetian furniture, chandeliers, and porcelain.
Want to take a look inside?
The front of the building is particularly beautiful. And it is best viewed from the Grand Canal. So if you are taking the vaporetto – keep an eye out for this building.

Continue:
If you do not go inside, continue back along the narrow quay to the small bridge. Turn right there.
Quickly on the left is a very narrow alley. Enter it and turn right at the end. Keep to the left, but continue walking in the same northern direction.
At house 3345, stop to turn left again into the next small street (Calle del Magazen). Walk all the way down this street until you reach the square: Campo S. Margherita.
A lively square and nice to visit in the evening. In any case, cross the square now towards the right-hand corner to enter the street there, turning right.
You will automatically walk across the bridge and there you will already see the Sant Pantalon.

The church of San Pantalon looks simple from the outside, but inside a surprise awaits you: an enormous ceiling painting by Giovanni Antonio Fumiani.
The work covers the entire ceiling space (more than 40 panels!) and depicts scenes from the life and martyrdom of Saint Pantalon. It is one of the largest paintings on canvas in the world.
📍 Tip: Take the time to stand at the back of the church. That is where you will truly see how impressive this masterpiece is.
Continue your route by walking into the small street on the right side of the buildings and keeping to the left. At the end, turn right, then quickly turn left again – passing under the buildings.
Keep walking straight ahead until you pass under the buildings again and see the largest church in Venice.
This is the Basilica dei Frari. You will find the entrance by walking all the way around the building to the right. Would you like this walking route on your phone or even print it out? Go to my Etsy shop, where you can download the Venice walking route PDF.

This impressive Franciscan basilica, known as the Frari, is the largest church in Venice. The church is in the Venetian Gothic style.
Despite the simple brick exterior, it houses a treasure trove of art inside:
A visit to the Frari is like a dive into five centuries of art and history. Absolutely a must-see on your itinerary.
Venice City Walk Map
We have finished the walking route.
You now only need to walk to point ‘0’, Piazzale Roma. For many, this is the starting point of this beautiful walk. Back to the beginning of the Venice walking route?
To get back here, go back around the large Frari church until you reach the white facade of the Rocco Church. On the left, you will see signage pointing directly to Piazzale Roma.
Follow this, and the walking route is finished.

And now: enjoy 😊
You have completed a Itinerary that took you past the major icons, but also through those quiet streets and small squares where Venice reveals its magic.
Hopefully, you walked the route at your own pace. Feel free to split it into two days and consciously plan breaks along the way for an espresso in a campo, a small church that happens to be open, or simply to stand still for a moment on a bridge.
If you want to make things extra easy for yourself and save time at the most famous sights, take a look at The Venice Pass (featuring skip-the-line options and convenient combinations, among other things).
However you approach it: follow the route, let yourself be surprised by the hidden corners, and you are guaranteed to go home feeling like you have discovered the real Venice.
